Borzan®
BORZAN® is a true biopolymer designed for use in vertical and horizontal drilling applications where conventional bentonite based drilling fluids may not be desirable.
BORZAN®’s highly concentrated xanthan gum formulation allows for less material to be used than most other bio-polymers. Normal application rates are only 3 to 3½ pounds per 100 gallons to achieve a 45 second Marsh Funnel viscosity. BORZAN®’s superior gel strengths suspend solids and prevent sticking and frac out. It is particularly effective in vapor extraction wells where it can be broken out of the system with no residual wall-cake once the drilling operation is completed.

Borzan® d
BORZAN® is a biopolymer designed for use in vertical or horizontal drilling applications and may be used as a stand-alone drilling fluid or as an additive to enhance properties of conventional bentonite based drilling fluids.
As a stand-alone drilling fluid BORZAN® D is a highly concentrated xanthan gum allowing for lower addition rates than most bio-polymers. BORZAN® D fluids are particularly effective in vapor extraction and other environmental wells where it can be flushed out of the bore with minimum residual wall-cake once the drilling operation is completed. Marsh funnel
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluids resistance to flow: the greater the resistance, the higher the viscosity.
As measured by the Marsh Funnel, the viscosity of the fluid in question is influence by the density of the fluid (solids content) and gelation rate (beneficiated solids content). The viscosity of the drilling fluid in use should be based on a combination of the following parameters: Drilling rate, pump and output capacity, mud density, cuttings size, hole size and solids removal equipment.
Procedure: For seconds/quarts 1. Hold funnel in upright position with index finger over outlet. 2. Pour the test sample through the screen in top of the funnel until the mud level just reaches the underside of the screen. 3. Remove finger from outlet and measure number of seconds for a quart of sample to run out.

Cuttings or solids held in suspension in drilling mud significantly influence the life of pumps, swivels, and hoses.
These abrasive particles can be removed by using a sand cone (desander) working in conjunction with good drilling mud characteristics. Mud mixed to a Marsh Funnel viscosity of 34 to 36 seconds can carry cuttings from the hole.
